Intwasa means Spring – a season for new life, new beginnings, joy and fun. Spring is a season for blooming. A season for opening up and flourishing. A season in bloom exudes energy and radiates diversity. Blooming reflects freshness, vigour, and youthfulness. This is exactly what the 8th edition of Intwasa Arts festival will be about.

WHAT IS INTWASA?
Intwasa Arts Festival koBulawayo is a multi-disciplinary arts festival that brings together various art forms i.e. dance, theatre, music, film, literary arts, visual arts, spoken word and fashion within one platform. The festival is aimed at celebrating artistic talent present locally, regionally and globally and ensures that there is cross fertilization of ideas, collaborations, and exchanges between various arts disciplines. The festival also creates employment and promotes sustainability for artists, art groups and technical people in the arts.

The inaugural festival was held in 2005. Intwasa has since grown from being an annual week long festival to being an organization which runs ongoing cultural activities which run throughout the year as a build up to the September showcase. The programs cater for the development and capacitation of artists though training workshops, exchange programs, exhibitions and other related activities. Intwasa also seeks to link artist with the corporate sector in a mutually beneficial way.

The target groups are many and varied as they include the Bulawayo community, local artists, visiting artists, embassies, NGOs and the corporate sector. Intwasa markets the city of Bulawayo as a tourist destination in Zimbabwe.
